no blood on back brace

If you look closely at the photo of JFK's brace & bandage, you will notice a surprising lack of blood on either item. How can this be, when his shirt (itself a very good case for a frontal shot from the right) has blood all the way down to the left kidney area? Just a little something that's been bugging me of late.

i read something recently about the brace not being much higher than the pelvis area.

jfk fell to his side within seconds of being shot so the blood did not flow down to his chronic low back area shirt was also in the way.
