Hello my internet friend
I traveled through El Paso in 1981. Out of curiosity, I crossed the border to Juarez...I saw it as a sleepy charming 'South of the border town', (home of the burros) lots of cactus; bougainvilla, pink oleanders as I can recall, bungalows with fenced in dirt yards, quaint shops and cantinas.. the witnessing of the social dilemna and unrest came as I crossed the border back into Texas. I was amazed to see men, women and children lined up across the border, sitting and slepping in the streets of El Paso at dusk and beyond . I had never seen anything like it. I was stopped by customs in El Paso. Believe it not, the key to my new blue mustang broke as I tried to unlock the trunk..I waited 3 hours in customs for a locksmith to come open the trunk.
