Request To Mr. Paul Pennyworth:

Post by Bruce Patrick Brychek »

Dear Mr. Paul Pennyworth,

Many years ago while I was training in Martial Arts and Martial Science with Jimmy Files in Chicago, I heard about a really big Rock and Roll Concert. During the late 1960' S I went with a bunch of my college friends to a place called Woodstock, New York for an outdoor Rock Music Festival. At this time I saw and heard some of the greatest (in my opinion), Rock and Roll Stars of that time, some of whom still appear today.

A lesser known band at the time, Country Joe and The Fish did a song about the Viet Nam War.

Paul, you seem to have a great knack for musical lyrics, both finding them, and posting them here on the JFK Forum. I was wondering if I could impose upon you to post that song here under this thread.

I very strongly think that those lyrics will be very germane to many of us today, as I think that Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia are the blueprint for Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran.

Further, I strongly compliment my friend Bob for several of his recent posts, especially the one about Operation Northwoods.

Paul, in closing, although I am not always able to respond, your threads are ones that I always read, along with about 10 others. Although, I do read each and everyone eventually, even the ones that I disagree with.

Respectfully,
Bruce Patrick Brychek.

I hope Paul will forgive me as I believe I know the song Bruce is referring to. However, Paul does have a very good ear for good music and also knows great lyrics. It is a very apropos song for these times...like Iraq, Afghanistan and soon to be Iran. Oh, the Military Industrial Complex, and an idiot like Dumbya Bu$h to be the "decider". Here we go...

Forgive me Bruce and Paul, but I had to add another song. From the man who penned "Ohio" for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in the Vietnam era. Very apropos for this Dumbya ass "decider".

Dear Messers. Bob and Paul Pennyworth,

Thank You both for humoring an aging Hippee.

What do you two think of this thought pattern.

I do not see the colleges and music of today addressing the War in Iraq yet as I did during the Viet Nam War ?

Thoughts ?

Again, Thank You Bob and Paul.
Best Always,
Respectfully,
Bruce Patrick Brychek.

The big difference between the youth of today and the 60's is the draft. Now we have volunteer only army. In the 60's, lots of people knew guys that had to go to Nam because they were drafted. But still, I think the youth of today knows what's going on with Bu$h and his war profiteers. They use the Internet and watch shows like the "Daily Show" with Jon Stewart. And I know in Europe and other places in the world, the youth are just as educated. I definitely think the music of today is lacking however. When I guy like Neil Young has to do a protest song (again) about Bu$h, I think it's time that other bands start pulling their weight. Pearl Jam is one that tries to speak on issues of today.

Dear Mr. Paul Pennyworth,

This aging hippee has two (2) more requests, and Paul Pennyworth, you are the man.

1. War, the song by I believe Edwin Star.

2. Eve of Destruction, but I can't remember the singers name. I'll listen to my Oldie But Goodie Station this week, and plug in the name next week, if I can find it.

Anyway, they played these two (2) songs back-to-back in Illinois the other day right after Bush II asked for $ 200 Billion Dollars more for Iraq ASAP.

Paul, Thank You.

Best Regards,
Respectfully,
Bruce Patrick Brychek.

Here's another classic anti-war song from Buffalo Springfield...

And let's not forget this classic from two members of that same band, Neil Young & Stephen Stills and the rest of CSN&Y...

Edwin Starr
WAR....

What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again, y'all

War, huh, good God
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

Ohhh, war, I despise
Because it means destruction
Of innocent lives

War means tears
To thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
And lose their lives

I said, war, huh
Good God, y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again

War, whoa, Lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

War, it ain't nothing
But a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Ooooh, war
It's an enemy to all mankind
The point of war blows my mind
War has caused unrest
Within the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die
Aaaaah, war-huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it, say it, say it
War, huh
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again y'all
War, huh, good God
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War, it's got one friend
That's the undertaker
Ooooh, war, has shattered
Many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean
Life is much to short and precious
To spend fighting wars these days
War can't give life
It can only take it away

Ooooh, war, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again

War, whoa, Lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Peace, love and understanding
Tell me, is there no place for them today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way

Ooooooh, war, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
You tell me
Say it, say it, say it, say it

War, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Stand up and shout it
Nothing
