There are now 168,000 American troops in Iraq. There are also 180,000 contractors in Iraq, folks like Halliburton and Blackwater. It's all about money. Check out the profits of companies like Lockheed, General Dynamics, the Carlyle Group, Ratheon and others. How much money have you spent on gas recently? Do you think Exxon or Chevron are making money? How about to the tune of $10 BILLION dollars per quarter! And they are also going to get the lion's share of Iraqi oil as well. As I have said recently, I have emailed the Democratic "leadership" in the House and Senate to voice my displeasure. I am now officially an Independent. Impeachment has to happen NOW! It should never have been off the table in the first place. Nancy Pelosi is a MORON! The current Bu$h administration is FAR worse than the Nixon administration in terms of lawlessness. What do you have to do to get impeached nowadays? Start a war with LIES? Make 9/11 an inside job? Torture people? Illegally wiretap? Destroy the middle class of America? Out a CIA agent? Fail as a government during Katrina? Steal a couple of elections? Outsource key American jobs? I feel like a citizen in Germany in the 1930's now. When you ask what has changed, I guess the country stayed pretty much the same, but I have changed. I was much more upset with Bush than I am now with Trump. I was largely disappointed with Obama, and though I voted for her I was happy Hillary lost. I now see the whole presidential spectacle as little more than theater to engage the American TV audience. It seems to me it doesn't really matter who wins as they are vetted to maintain the status quo or they wouldn't get their party's nomination. If a president threatens the establishment he can be hamstrung by congress, or disgraced or assassinated if necessary. Having had high hopes with JFK, RFK, Carter, and Obama, as people who would actually change things, I have to admit their results were miniscule compared to their promises. The establishment rolled on, indestructible.
