corruption

Post by R Croxford »

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/B/ ... EFAULTHere is a perfect example of the shit we put up with. You have an NBA official who is going to go to jail for being bought and he starts to talk about a game where 2 refs decided the game. The same ol shit is said. No one could have kept that a secret! Why is it everyone thinks that if 2 or more people know something that it can't be kept a secret? WTF! Anyone who is an NFL fan should know that the refs screw up more games than I can remember. This guy is like Files, he is trying to tell people some truth and they do not want to listen. Pathetic!

Good point RC. Just ask the Seattle Seahawks a couple years ago after they lost the Super Bowl to the Pittsburgh Steelers after maybe the worst officiated game I ever saw. I think the NBA will need a long time to recover from this when it's all said and done. The NBA and the commissioner are acting like they are the Warren Commission saying, "Nothing to see here folks". But sports is like life in general. People see the potential to make profits illegally and by cheating. Sort of like using electronic scanners and voting machines in elections that can easily be hacked to steer the election to one candidate. The refs and umpires are certainly a way to change sporting event outcomes, IF they can be bought off. So can breaking rules like the New England Patriots did illegally filming the opposing coaches and their signals. Or players in baseball or football illegally using steroids or human growth hormones to get bigger and better. The result, if they get away with it, is more money and more power, or certainly recognition. Just like in life.

The largest grass roots uprising to change society in my lifetime was opposition to the Vietnam War. But it evaporated when the draft was abolished, and the war went on, and now we are 18 years into a middle eastern war and there is no noticeable resistence or opposition to it by the people. I think most of us are trained at an early age to consider our own welfare first, and to follow the carrot and avoid the stick. Can you really blame people for not trying to change things when the ongoing lesson from those who run the show is that resistence is futile? Most meaningful change in societies, for good or bad, have been brought about by charismatic leaders, whether FDR or Hitler or LBJ or Reagan. The Kennedys were poised to be those charismatic leaders, but were eliminated when it appeared they would derail the status quo. The closest we have had to a charismatic leader lately was Obama, but "change you can believe in" mostly didn't come. People saw Trump as a charismatic leader, but once again "make America great again" was mostly talk and no action. These were just advertising slogans, like "Hellman's the real mayonnaise". Maybe that is the best we can hope for. Like in many countries that we think we are freer than, we really only get to vote for the wealthy and powerful, who society is set up to work best for, no matter who the candidates are and no matter what they promise. Like in a gambling casino, all the rules are set up to favor the house.
