Fifty Year Celebration

Post by Dealey Joe »

I think its time for someone to say something about the 50th year Memorial in Dealey Plaza, Dallas. My perspective is no doubt somewhat different that others since I live near and get to visit Dealey often. The big clamor started when The City/County of Dallas decided they wanted to stop all circus type activities on 11-22-2013This really pisssed off the CT community in general, namely the John Judge Group COPA who always held noon time ceremony followed by a JFK Lancer follow up.These productions were pretty simple, loud speakers set up in order to be hears all over the plaza, these were ok to me but really uninteresting and in the back of my mind I thought they were less than desirable and not really fitting for the situation. I was a bit resentful because these people were designated by themselves as spokesmen for us all.Sio this year 2013 Dallas decided it would take over the celebration, require security clearances for 5000 people who were to be admitted to the plaza for the ceremony itself, to be selected by a drawing. To cut it short the ceremony was televised on National TV and huge screens arounf the downtown area, the temperatures were very chilly and cold and I noticed the crowd in the plaza was a little light, just my estimation. The Program which I watched from home was awesome, I was very impressed with it, it was fitting to the situation and included many organizations from the mayors speech to the military bands.I want to thank Dallas for having the balls to do this against all the CT opposition, complaints and outright name calling.WELL DONE DALLAS!http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=jfk ... 58FE5A29C3

I thought it was nice too and I am glad that I was watching it from the warmth and comfort of Dealey Joe's house. I worked at the Dallas Police Department for seven years. There had to be some sort of order brought to this event or it would have been total chaos and totally unenjoyable and maybe even dangerous for those in attendance. The weather itself put a damper on things. I know CT'ers were upset by the vetting of the attendees but we are fortunate that DP is accessible and open 24/7 every day.
