Maybe Walt stuck to the script and learned to keep his mouth shut....from what I've read about his comments on Vietnam I think he learned his lesson about giving his opinions

Like most Walter Cronkite was the voice of the assassination, bringing the news that JFK had been killed that fatal Friday was his place in history carved out forever. Whatever he did after that, I am sure that was without a doubt, the highest and lowest point of his career, all in one go….Some very interesting video posts by Bob there, well worth checking out indeed…
