A 19-year-old man who lives nearby said he was inside his house when he saw a car driving in the wrong direction. The car then stopped near the alley, he said, and it appeared that shots were fired from the car. "It just calmly rolled away," he said. "I was surprised." Another man, who asked to be identified only as Manuel, said he was drinking in front of his home when someone from a vehicle fired shots near the alley. "Boom, boom, boom, boom," he said. "Everyone ran."He said he hid in nearby bushes, and he later heard additional gunshots. A 23-year-old woman was shot in the right leg. Both were in good condition at Stroger Hospital. • About 2:35 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg while he was walking in the 2100 block of North Pulaski Road in the Hermosa neighborhood, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. • In Wicker Park about 2:25 a.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the knee during an argument in the 2000 block of West LeMoyne Street, police said. He was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital.The shooting happened near an apartment building and a shopping center, not far from Damen CTA Blue Line station. Ofelia Garcia, who lives nearby, said she was in bed when she heard the gunshots, which she originally thought could be fireworks. "Oh no, not again," Garcia said in Spanish, recalling what she thought at the time. She looked out her window and saw a dark-colored vehicle near the alley. She was in the 200 block of West 114th Street when a black vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, striking her in the stomach. The woman was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center. • Two people were shot about 11 p.m. Friday in an alley in the 1000 block of East 73rd Street in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, police said. A 22-year-old woman was shot in the stomach and the left leg. She was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital. A 24-year-old man was shot in the left arm, and his condition was stabilized at Advocate Christ Medical Center. Police do not yet know what led to the shooting, and said the victims were uncooperative with investigators. • In West Pullman, a 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen about 10:20 p.m. in the 300 block of West 120th Street. He was standing on the sidewalk when he heard gunshots and was shot. His condition was stabilized at Advocate Christ Medical Center. • A 25-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting in the 4500 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. About 10:10 p.m., he was standing on the sidewalk when a dark-colored vehicle drove by and two men inside opened fire, striking him in the leg arm and both legs. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. • An unlicensed cab driver was shot in the foot during a robbery just before 9:55 p.m. in the 9100 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the Burnside neighborhood, police said. As he was dropping off a man and a woman, the man pulled out a gun and demanded the driver's money. During a struggle, the robber hit the driver in the head with the gun and shot him in the foot. The robber left with the driver's money. The 62-year-old driver then drove himself to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. • About 9:10 p.m., a 33-year-old man was driving in the 8500 block of South Givins Court when someone walked out of a gangway and shot at him multiple times, police said. He drove himself to the Gresham District, where he sought medical help. He was in serious condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center. • A 26-year-old man was shot in the 5200 block of West Madison Street about 7:20 p.m. in South Austin, police said. The man was on a porch when he was shot in the right side of his buttocks and grazed in the right thigh. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.• A 26-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were shot around 4:25 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Douglas Boulevard in the city's Lawndale neighborhood. Police earlier said the 17-year-old was 52 years old. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where the 26-year-old was in serious condition. The 17-year-old's condition was not clear, according to police.• Ten minutes before the Lawndale attack, a 17-year-old boy was wounded about 4:15 p.m. in the East Garfield Park neighborhood in the 3200 block of West Madison Street, police said. Someone inside a residence accidentally shot the boy in the back, and fled the scene. The boy was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, and no one was in custody, police said.• About noon, a young man was shot in the 4200 block of West Grenshaw Street in the Lawndale community, police said. An 18-year-old was approached by a robber who pulled out a gun and shot him in the upper left leg. The victim took himself to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, where he was listed in good condition, police said.• About 4:30 a.m. Friday, a man was shot in the left forearm and left thigh as he stood on a rear porch of a home in the 4400 block of West Adams Street around 4:30 a.m., police said. The gunman fired from an alley in the West Garfield Park neighborhood and ran off, police said. Fifteen of the wounded died.The last time the Fourth holiday spanned four full days was in 2013, when July 4 fell on a Thursday and many people had Friday off. At least 74 people were shot between Wednesday evening and early Monday that year, and 12 of them died, according to Tribune data.The violence this year was largely confined to the South and West sides, including districts where the department has installed what it calls strategic decisions support centers and predictive technology. Hundreds of officers on overtime were also deployed to those districts.The youngest person shot over the weekend was a 13-year-old boy seriously wounded in Gage Park on Friday night. The house where the two men were shot was home to a young man killed last year around the corner. The older man was pronounced dead overnight at Loyola University Medical Center. Tuesday night, a man approached the crime scene with a toddler, who seemed to be just learning to walk as she ambled ahead of him. An officer walked up to the little girl and gently turned her around, while another yelled at her father for walking under yellow tape officers had stretched across Major Avenue.• Seven miles to the south, shortly before midnight, a woman searched the 1900 block of South Spaulding for shell casings by the light of her cellphone before officers arrived. He had been shot about a block south on the 1300 block of West 13th Street.• A shooting in the 3400 block of West Grenshaw Street about 10:15 p.m. left two men wounded. People nearby said they hesitated when they heard the gunfire but weren't certain because of the frequency of the fireworks. A woman, who neighbors said was the young man's grandmother, stepped to the ambulance to find out what happened."Right now, ma'am, he's worried about you. He's going to be OK, but he's worried about you," a paramedic told the woman.
